#4 Kirkwood def. Ellsworth, 3-2
#4 Kirkwood battled Ellsworth to a 3-2 win in a tense match in Iowa Falls. The Eagles (10-2, 2-0) came out strong on the road and took the first set convincingly 25-15. They then faltered in the second set after a rebound by the Panthers, 25-20. The teams continued this back and forth pattern for the next two sets with Kirkwood winning 25-13 and Ellsworth forcing a fifth set after another 25-20 set win. The Eagles narrowly escaped the fifth set 15-13 to pick up the victory.
Leading the way for the Eagles was Kaci Johnson who had 11 kills, 21 assists and nine block assists. Kirkwood was very strong at the net, collecting 26 blocks in total. Josie Bryan led the team in kills with 14 and Marissa Cahoy had 9. Cahoy also had five aces. Sydney Matthias shared the setting duties and had 20 herself.
Defensively, Lily Van Severen had 21 digs and Maggie Lueck had 9.
Western Iowa Tech def. Hawkeye, 3-2
Western Iowa Tech came through with one of their best wins in program history as they rallied from 2-0 to win the match against Hawkeye 3-2.
The Comets dropped the first two sets, at home, 25-18 and 25-22. They then rallied to back-to-back set wins of 25-18 and 25-14, then carried that momentum into the final set. They finished off the comeback with a 15-11 final set win.
WIT was led by Jagoda Szczepaniak who had 17 kills, 14 digs and two aces. The sophomore outside hitter hit .389% for the match.
